The group was started by Matt Myers, a 15 year online marketing veteran. Matt launched United Airlines' first website in 1995 and then went on to found the Internet Strategy Group (ISG), which he managed through 2008. ISG, a performance-based interactive agency, perennially ranks as one of the Top 5 Interactive Agencies in Baltimore by The Baltimore Business Journal.

The name of the company originates from Matt Myers' AOL screen name. In 1994-95, Matt worked at AOL and procured a fairly easy to remember login name. Matt continues to be a frequent user of AIM at work and many colleagues started referring to Matt as simply "myersm".
